A $9.1 million class action settlement has been approved by Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Ballard for women who alleged they were secretly recorded inside the West Virginia State Police Academy locker room. Some former junior troopers have been given an additional 45 days to submit claims. The settlement also covers related individual cases filed under the name "Jane Doe." The scandal was exposed in March 2023. Victims include female basic trainees, students, teachers, cadets, junior cadets, and other women who used the locker room between January 2015 and March 20, 2023.
