The settlement addresses alleged discriminatory practices in hiring and promotion of African American employees by the U.S. Marshals Service.

This settlement resolves claims that the U.S. Marshals Service discriminated against African American deputy marshals and applicants in hiring, recruitment, and promotion policies over nearly three decades.

• Current and former African American deputy U.S. marshals subjected to USMS promotion policies between Jan. 23, 1994 and Nov. 27, 2023.
• Current and former African American deputy U.S. marshals, detention enforcement officers, or applicants subjected to USMS hiring and recruitment policies during the same period.
