This class action lawsuit, initiated by four Lindsay residents, concerns the Ontario Basic Income Pilot which was prematurely cancelled in March 2019. The lawsuit has been certified by the court, meaning it can proceed as a class action. Class members are being formally notified and have the option to opt out. If successful, the case will proceed to a common issues trial to determine legal issues, followed by a final stage to determine individual compensation. The pilot, which ran from 2017 to 2019, provided income support to participants in Hamilton, Thunder Bay, and Lindsay.
