Ohio's Bureau of Motor Vehicles will refund registration fees and taxes to disabled veterans who were improperly charged for Specialty Military License Plates.
Improper charging of registration fees and taxes for Specialty Military License Plates to disabled veterans in Ohio.
A proposed class-action settlement in the Kacin v. Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles case has received preliminary approval from the Ohio Court of Claims. The settlement will provide full refunds for registration taxes and fees paid by veterans with a 100% service-connected disability who purchased Specialty Military License Plates on or after October 17, 2019. The BMV will cover all notice and administration costs. This settlement addresses the improper charging of fees despite a law waiving them for severely disabled veterans.
