Consumers who paid a surcharge to withdraw cash from a nonbank ATM in the United States between October 24, 2007, and August 14, 2026, may be eligible for a payment from a class action settlement.
Alleged antitrust violations by Visa and Mastercard regarding nonbank ATM surcharges.
Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. have agreed to a $167,500,000 class action settlement resolving claims that their network rules violated antitrust laws by preventing independent ATM operators from charging lower access fees. Plaintiffs alleged that consumers may have paid higher surcharges at nonbank ATMs. Individuals who paid a surcharge to withdraw cash from an independent ATM in the United States between Oct. 24, 2007, and Aug. 14, 2026, and did not receive full reimbursement from their bank may qualify for a payment. The settlement does not include credit card transactions, cash advances, or prepaid cards. Claimants can file online or by mail. The claim deadline is February 10, 2027.
