This class action concerns the use of solitary confinement (segregation) in Manitoba's provincial correctional facilities. The Government of Manitoba agreed to a $129 million settlement to resolve the claims, which the Court of King's Bench of Manitoba approved on June 4, 2026. Manitoba denies liability. Class members are expected to receive payments starting at $3,000 for adults and $9,000 for youth, up to a maximum of $100,000 for prolonged segregation or specific proven harms. The claims process had not yet launched as of mid-June 2026; the administrator, Proactio, is preparing to open it.
