Loblaw, Metro, and Sobeys, along with Groupe Epicia, have been added as defendants in a proposed class action lawsuit in Quebec. The suit alleges that these grocery chains were negligent in selling maple syrup that was found to be adulterated with cane sugar. The proposed class action covers anyone in Canada who purchased the syrup since October 5, 2010. A judge must authorize the class action before it can proceed. The lawsuit seeks a refund of the purchase price, unspecified compensatory damages, and $100 in punitive damages per person.
