Honk Mobile Inc., a Toronto-based company that provides a platform for mobile parking payments across Canada, has settled a class-action lawsuit for $463,120. The lawsuit alleged that Honk Mobile violated Canada's Competition Act by charging undisclosed service fees to users who paid for parking between June 23, 2022, and July 24, 2024. The settlement, approved by B.C. Supreme Court Justice Shannon P. Ramsay, will distribute 75% of the fund to class members, amounting to about 35 cents per person, to be distributed through promotional codes on the company's platform. Honk Mobile denies the allegations and has not admitted any wrongdoing. This case is part of a broader trend of litigation against 'drip pricing' practices.
