A class action lawsuit alleges that major grocery store chains like Metro, Sobeys, Loblaws, and Epicia Group were negligent in selling fake maple syrup.
Allegations of negligence against grocery store chains for selling fake maple syrup.
A proposed class-action lawsuit, initially against Quebec producer Steve Bourdeau for selling fake maple syrup, has been expanded to include major grocery store chains Metro, Sobeys, Loblaws, and Epicia Group. The lawsuit alleges these chains were negligent and should have known the product they were selling was cut with cane sugar, despite being labeled as pure maple syrup. The suit seeks full refunds and $100 in punitive damages for consumers in Canada who purchased the bogus syrup since April 7, 2023. The courts have yet to approve the class action.
