Alleged failure to comply with nursing home regulations and violations of patient privacy rights at Laguna Honda Hospital.
The City and County of San Francisco has agreed to a $5.75 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging Laguna Honda Hospital failed to comply with nursing home regulations and violated patients' privacy rights. Two classes are defined: the Patients' Rights Class (patients between April 14, 2022, and Aug. 16, 2023) and the Confidentiality Class (patients from March 23, 2017, to Feb. 17, 2026, who received a written privacy violation notice). Members of the Patients' Rights Class may receive a base payment of $1,000 plus an additional amount based on their length of stay. Members of the Confidentiality Class may receive a flat payment of $750. Eligible class members must choose how they want to receive their payment via an online form or postcard by November 10, 2026. Payments will be distributed after final court approval and resolution of any appeals.
