A certified class action alleges the federal government failed to protect children from sexual abuse by military chaplain Capt. Angus McRae on Canadian Forces bases.
A class action alleging the federal government failed to protect children from sexual abuse by Canadian Armed Forces chaplain Capt. Angus McRae on military bases.
This class action seeks to hold the federal government responsible for sexual abuse of children by Canadian Armed Forces chaplain Capt. Angus McRae, who abused children living with their families on military bases — including CFB Namao near Edmonton — around 1978 to 1980. McRae, who died in 2011, was convicted of sexual crimes against children. The lawsuit was certified by the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, and in 2026 the Supreme Court of Canada allowed it to proceed. The case is at an early stage; no settlement or compensation has been determined yet. Survivors can register with class counsel to receive updates.
