A proposed Alberta class action over a privacy breach that exposed the names, addresses, phone numbers and elector ID numbers of about 2.9 million registered voters through a public database.
A proposed Alberta class action over the alleged unlawful exposure of about 2.9 million voters' personal information from the provincial elector list.
A proposed class action filed in June 2026 in the Alberta Court of King's Bench alleges that the province's list of electors was unlawfully accessed and distributed, exposing the personal information of roughly 2.9 million registered Alberta voters. The compromised data reportedly included names, home addresses, phone numbers, postal codes and unique elector identification numbers, published through a public database. The claim seeks general, aggregate and punitive damages, as well as the identification, retrieval and destruction of all unauthorized copies of the voter data. The lawsuit has not yet been certified and the allegations have not been tested or proven in court.
