The settlement addresses claims that Abilify caused impulse control disorders such as compulsive gambling and shopping in Canadian users.
This national class action alleges that Abilify and Abilify Maintena caused or worsened compulsive behaviors including gambling, binge eating, compulsive shopping, and hypersexuality. The defendants denied the allegations but agreed to a proposed $14.75 million settlement fund subject to court approval. Eligible Canadians prescribed and using Abilify before February 23, 2017, or Abilify Maintena injections between 2014 and 2016, may receive compensation once claims are approved.
Who qualifies
- Persons in Canada prescribed and ingested Abilify before February 23, 2017.
- Persons prescribed and received Abilify Maintena injections between February 6, 2014 and December 16, 2016.
- Family members entitled to claim under applicable provincial laws.
- Those who developed compulsive gambling, binge eating, compulsive shopping, or hypersexual behaviors after using Abilify.
