About this settlement

Listeria contamination and recall of certain Silk and Great Value plant-based beverages that caused illnesses, hospitalizations and three deaths in 2024.

A national class action settlement of $7.5 million was approved by the Superior Court of Quebec in April 2026 on behalf of Canadians who purchased or consumed Silk and Great Value plant-based beverages subject to a recall initiated by Danone Canada on July 8, 2024. The recalled almond, oat, coconut and cashew beverages were linked to a 2024 listeria outbreak that caused 20 reported illnesses, 15 hospitalizations and three deaths. The defendants deny all allegations and any wrongdoing or liability. There are six levels of compensation: most claimants who got sick but were not hospitalized receive $400 to $7,000 (based on how long symptoms lasted); those hospitalized without lasting complications can receive up to $30,000; those with severe complications or permanent symptoms up to $150,000; and the estates or beneficiaries of those who died up to $300,000. Claims must be submitted by October 16, 2026.
